What are BOTOX® injections?
BOTOX® is:
- Derived from the bacterium Clostridium Botulinum. The cosmetic version of this toxin is highly diluted, making it safe and effective for many medical and cosmetic procedures.
- BOTOX® is injected into the muscles, preventing the release of neurotransmitters that cause muscles to contract.
- A muscle relaxant, which will cause your muscles to contract less, thereby decreasing the wrinkles and folds on your skin.

- Patients will meet with us so we can discuss whether BOTOX® is the right treatment for them and suits their skincare needs.
- We ask patients to keep the area to be treated free of topical products and to refrain from taking blood thinning medications within 24 hours of treatment.
Procedure
- The procedure can be done the same day as the consult, depending on patient needs.
- We apply a numbing cream to ensure the patient feels as comfortable as possible.
- The procedure itself takes 5-30 minutes, depending on the amount of botox desired and where.
Follow Up & AfterCare
- After the procedure, arnica may be given or an ice pack to lessen any swelling (which should be minimal).
- The patient is verbally explained aftercare instructions, which are also sent to them via email. We follow up within 1-2 days regarding the treatment and aftercare.
- Results are expected to begin within 2-4 days, but full results come in 2 weeks.
How safe is BOTOX®?
When given by a qualified medical professional, BOTOX® injection treatment is generally considered safe. However, it has certain possible risks and adverse effects, just like any medical operation.
Is BOTOX® painful?
Most people say that getting a BOTOX® injection causes relatively minor discomfort. Injection needles are normally quite tiny and do not cause much pain.
How long does it take for BOTOX® to start working?
Within a few days to a week following treatment, the effects of BOTOX® injections typically starts to be visible. To fully experience the results, though, it could take up to two weeks.
Who shouldn’t get injections of BOTOX®?
Women who are expecting or nursing, those who have previously experienced allergic responses to neuromodulators…shouldn’t receive BOTOX® injections. Before receiving Botox treatment, patients must discuss any medical conditions with a medical expert.
